1) Product Development - Roughly half of my time is devoted to work involved with product development (both new products, and improvements to existing products.) I am involved in all phases of the new product development cycle from conception to production, including design (using SolidWorks), qualification testing (ensuring compliance to required and accepted industry standards), documentation, and production tooling. I also review and approve changes to existing products performed by others. |
2) Software Development - About one quarter of my time I work on the development of custom software to automate the design of different variations of existing product lines. The goal of the software is generally to enable someone with a minimal knowledge of a given product line to be able to walk through the design process with a customer, ensuring that all pertinent design information is collected. The software then produces one specification/drawing with information needed by the customer to approve the design, and another drawing with a complete parts list that manufacturing can use to build the product. This software is written using Visual Basic and Microsoft Access. |
3) Codes & Standards - My duties under this heading occupy about one quarter of my time and include being actively involved in a number of organizations that develop and influence the development of codes, standards, and other regulations that affect the use of plastic pipe and related components in the natural gas industry. Among the organizations I am involved with are the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), the American Gas Association (AGA), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and the Plastics Pipe Institue (PPI). |
Beyond what is listed above, I have super overall computer skills and can learn anything you might throw at me in short order. I am self taught on most of the software I know, and am considered by colleagues and friends to be one of those "guru" types (although I make no claims to such myself.) |
Senior Design Project: | Flagstone Transporting Rack |
Designed a rack to carry large (5' x 10') slabs of granite or marble on a flatbedtruck trailer. Conducted stress analysis of the rack utilizing SDRC's I-deas software. Designed bolted joints using conventional methods. Prepared drawings using I-deas solid modeling and drafting capabilities. |
Served four months as a Zone Leader and twelve months as a District Leader while a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Organized and conducted weekly district training meetings and worked one on one with missionaries who needed additional training, motivation, or encouragement. |
